RAM Scion Of Ikshvaku | Book Review

Book Name : Ram Scion Of Ikshvaku
Author: Amish TripathiMy Rating: 3.5/5

This is the first Mythological novel, i read. I always hate mythology because you cannot interpret something on your own. After all it is a myth. Author is just pouring his own interest on it and change the actual thing. That is not, how it should look like. But then i decided to give this one a try.
As the book name suggests, this one is about ram. Amish wrote a series of three books for Ram, Sita and Raavan. The collection was named as Ram Chandra Series. He already wrote another set of three books about Lord Shiva.
Okay, while coming to this story. Though Amish stick himself  to the baseline story of Ramayanam. He altered it as many possible ways as he could. For example, he introduced something called masculine way and feminine way.
He also introduced some new character like Roshni. He introduced this character as a rakhi sister of Ram brothers. Throughout the book there is some contradiction exist here and there. He framed some plots based on the incidents happening in our society.
But above all what makes this story unique is liveliness. He create some liveliness through his way of writing. He made all the things are just appearing in front of eyes. His choice of words give him a lucid way to narrate the story.

Story Outline:
It all starts with ram and Lakshman deer hunting scene. In Ramayana they went for that because of Sita. But here there is no such thing. Contradiction starts from the first page itself! followed by a introduction plot to Dashrath father of Ram. After that actual story comes into picture. Four brothers were born Ram, Bharat, Lakshman and Satrughan. They were sent to Vashishta gurkalam for learning. It goes in the same way.
Interestingly this book ends where it begin. Yes along with deer hunting scene we will come to the end of book. In order to know what happen next, we have to read Sita. The second book in Ram Chandra Series. Though we all know Ramayanam, Amish make this story interesting only through his way of writing. Apart from that, new things which he try to introduce only appears to me as contradictory.

True to the title of this book. Amish create a significant impact through the character of Ram. He also perfectly captured the love between Ram brothers. He made us to feel like, we should also have some brothers like him. How understanding they are!
At the same time love between Ram and Sita only appears to be a love between two law obeyers. Nothing more than that. There is no intimacy. Something is missing, I could not feel that connection between Ram and Sita in Ramayanam.

Recommended Or not?

If you are a fan of mythology this book is really for you. It is just a treat for you guys and pardon me for my judgmental thoughts. It is just what i feel.
If you are like me, no problem. You can also give this book a try, Narration of this story is amazing.
